RETINAL IMAGING

With recent advancements in technology, it is now possible to take high resolution images (digital photographs) of the back of your eyes. The images are then transfered to a high power computer where the image can be viewed almost instantly. The images can then be stored on the computer, transfered to CD's, e mailed to hospitals or printed out.
We have recently acquired a state of the art digital retinal camera, the Topcon NW6 (pictured here). Incorporating an integrated Nikon digital camera which gives a resolution upto 6 million pixels, it enables us to rapidly take high quality digital retinal photographs. This can usually be achieved with normal pupil size, however if you have particularly small pupil or cataracts developing, then drops to dilate your pupils may be necessary for high resolution pictures.
This is a typical type of image taken by the camera. It is an example of a normal appearance to the back of the eye (also called the fundus)
